How PRP Therapy Accelerates Healing and Relieves Pain
Do you suffer from aches and pains in your joints, muscles, or limbs? If your physical condition deteriorates below a certain level, pain becomes your constant companion. It’s up to modern medicine to get you healed and back on your feet as soon as possible. We use the insights of regenerative medicine to help you heal quickly, safely, and completely.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, derived from a sample of your own blood, provides a minimally invasive way to kickstart your healing capabilities. At Spine & Joint Physicians of Frisco, board-certified anesthesiologist and interventional pain management physician S. Justin Badiyan, MD can advise you on whether PRP therapy could be the right treatment to ease your pain and restore your health and vitality.
Accessing your natural healing capabilities
When your body needs to heal, either from an injury or from damage due to a chronic condition like arthritis, it naturally draws on biological healing factors to produce new tissues. Those healing factors can be accessed in the platelet-rich layers of your blood. PRP, concentrated from a simple blood sample, has been used in surgical procedures for decades. More recently, PRP therapy has been found to potentially accelerate healing and reduce pain in patients with a number of different conditions and complaints.
PRP activates your tissues at a cellular level. With PRP therapy, we can stimulate your blood flow and coagulation abilities, supply needed nutrients to the healing area, and substantially reduce inflammation in damaged joints and muscles.
Conditions often treated by PRP therapy include:
- Injuries, like sprains
- Chronic joint pain
- Chronic muscle pain
- Tendinitis
- Arthritis
- Osteoporosis
We can also use PRP therapy in combination with treatments like massage, physical therapy, and other healing and regenerative therapies.
Minimally invasive, with minimal risks
Because PRP treatment uses a concentration of your own blood, you don’t need to worry about potential contaminants or blood-borne infections. An injection treatment often takes as little as 10 minutes, and you won’t need any additional recovery time.
When you come in for a treatment, we start by drawing a sample of your blood, just as we would for any other procedure requiring a blood draw. We then concentrate the platelet-rich layers of your blood by spinning your blood sample in a high-tech centrifuge. If needed, we can also add other supplements to the concentrated sample as well. We then deliver the PRP in the form of an injection, targeting the area suffering from pain or inflammation.
